You're Invited to the 2024 Alaska Statewide Lectureship!

It’s our pleasure to invite all of you (and all others you invite) to the 58th Annual Alaska Statewide Church Lectureship.  This year's event will take place at the Northern Lights Church of Christ and the Pioneer Park Centennial Center on April 19th – 21st, 2024.

As Christians, we are to look, react, and live differently than those living without Jesus. The 2024 Alaska Statewide Lectureship theme, “Navigating Culture in Christ” will be highlighting many issues out of the maze of culture by using the map of the bible.

Preceding the Lectureship, we will be holding a “Leadership Seminar” on April 19th at the Northern Lights Church of Christ.

All are welcome to come.

We'd love to arrange a church family for you to stay with if you like. Please register by March 30th.

You can register for both events on the linked form below.

Leadership Seminar- April 19, 2024

Lectureship

  • The first century church “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6). In contrast, the 21st century church finds itself beset by pressures to conform either to the denominational world or to an increasingly irreligious society. How can the twenty-first century church maintain its identity while transforming itself so as to transform the world around it? How can it have the kind of impact upon the community that its first century counterpart did?

  • Singlehood can be a gift (1 Corinthians 7:7), and youthful lusts can be fled (2 Timothy 2:22). How can Christians navigate this time of life to be able to look back without regret? How can singlehood be used to the glory of God?

  • While divorce statistics actually tend to be trending down these days so are marriage statistics. Monogamous marriage is increasingly a countercultural decision. How can Christians couples live so as to allow their marriage to reveal “Christ and the church” as God intended (Ephesians 5:31-32)? How can Christians who find themselves in another situation live with purpose, i.e., married to a non-Christian, divorced, widowed, etc.?

  • How can parents bring up their children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4)? In what ways should a Christian home look different than its worldly counterpart?

  • What trends in the world of technology are impacting or will impact the church in the coming years? What impact do/will things like the internet, social media, smartphones and other internet enabled devices, artificial intelligence, etc., have on Christians? What are the pitfalls and potential advantages of modern technology? What do parents and grandparents need to look out for in order to protect their children?

  • The realities of a six-day creation and a global flood are regularly upheld in Scripture and even more commonly denied by the secular world. How can Christians demonstrate that Scripture is not unscientific? What questions can students ask their teachers and Christians ask their friends to cast doubt upon secular science’s status quo? What are some common questions Christians get asked and how can we “give an answer” while imparting “grace to the hearers” (1 Peter 3:15; Ephesians 4:29)?

  • Gender dysphoria is becoming an increasingly common phenomena in today’s world. What can the church do to 1) uphold the concept of gender and gender distinctions while 2) ministering to a world (and perhaps even fellow Christians, friends, and family) who are struggling with this problem?

  • Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” These exclusive claims are in direct conflict with a world that encourages people to speak their own (subjective) truth. Why ought Christians to believe in objective truth, and how can they connect the world with that truth without simply appearing prideful or bigoted?

  • What things should Christians know as they engage in the political process both in terms of Biblical realities and political agendas? How can Christians be active in the democratic process without being known more for their policies and political affiliation than their faith?

  • God created human sexuality – how did He intend for it to be fulfilled? How can Christians remain sexually pure in a sex-saturated environment? What is the way of escape for those struggling with pornography, inappropriate attraction (whether same or opposite sex), or finding sexual fulfillment outside of the boundaries God set?

  • Titus lived in a society known for its ungodly behavior (Titus 1:12), and yet grace taught him and his fellow Christians how to live differently (Titus 2:11-12). What suggestions can we glean from Paul’s epistle to Titus as to how to navigate our way through this present age as Christians? How can we demonstrate that we don’t live for this present age, dictated by materialistic needs and aims, but for the age “to come” (Ephesians 1:21)?
